Research Summary
I realized when building this bridge that you must chose an idea and stick with it, if it fails see what is wrong and try to fix the problem. Also the different types of material help a lot such as Carbon steel, High strength low alloy steel, Quenched temper steel. The types of pipe help to from solid to hollow the difference there is money, switching between those save money and keeps your bridge light. Width is also a factor in maintaing stability by providing sturdy support. My design came from many trials and errors, I finally found out that the suspension bridge would be the best way to go. This was because it was cheap and my bridge would always break in the middle, my thought was it was too heavy so i put every thing on the side so it would be light. My final design took me a while to get but after changing it many of time i had a working under budget bridge.
Conclusion Questions
The type and direction of stress applied to affect the section of the material type and the cross-sectional area. This is due to the cause of the cost of the material and the strength. Hollow tubes make for a cheaper but weaker alternative, but the solid pipes are strong and expensive along with the material type. Each type will have a different effect on strength and weight so the width of the pipe is crucial to the structure of the bridge.
The tension and compression in the bridge work against each other causing the bridge to have an increased structural integrity.
